Greetings nerdgasmic Fold!
This was nearly a real conversation that I had on Twitter.
I’m also seriously excited about Tron Legacy. I still like the original Tron, and the sequel actually looks like it’s going to pwn.
Do you think n00bs will understand it’s old school arcade game references? Or, will it just be a bunch of nerds and fanboys? If you have kids, how would you explain the original Tron to them?

I haven't seen the original, and I think if I watched it now it'd be like when I tried to play Final Fantasy 7 for the first time five years after it came out. I'd be completely baffled as to why people thought it was so great because it's the precursor to so many better things to which it pales in comparison.

Actually, it's probably the perfect time for it. The first one came out in the day of the big mainframe computers and the MCP (Master Control Program). Everything had to go through, and was restricted by, the MCP. Well guess what? The mainframe is back! Along with Cloud Computing and the ever present Firewall/Anti-virus/Spyware watching our every move! 🙂 Go TRON!
Clash of the Titans, and now this? What's next? A new or remade Blade Runner or Hackers or War Games? Maybe they can dust out even a few older movies along the lines of CotT, such as the Sinbad movies. Then again, how about the writers come up with something original for a change?

…of course, having now sat through the preview, I feel the need to quote JB.

See?!
Nerds and fanboys. . . though it'd be nice to see n00bs turned on to the awesomeness of Tron. The preview made me wanna go watch the original again. . . and I'll agree. . . nerdgasm!!!
