Paperboy is still one of the hardest games I remember ever playing. It’s right up there with Ninja Gaiden for Xbox.
What was the hardest game you’ve played?

HA great comic brian.
Do you really need to ask? Dragon’s Lair of course.
Definitely! I remember playing that every time I would go to Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, and getting more and more ticked each time I played it, but yet the animation and the thought that I could get Dirk past that last level kept me dumping my quarters into it. I never knew anyone that could beat that game. Then they went off and made a cartoon about it. At least I could watch the cartoon and Dirk the Daring was able to make it somewhere instead of meeting his fate at every turn.
One thing I always found fascinating about the video game was it’s graphics. Don Bluth did the animation for it, and it was one of the most amazing games. It definitely stood out above the rest for that time period. I never knew any other video game in the early 80’s that could compare to it cinematic-ally.
One of the hardest games.
Haha. So true.
Hahahaa. I loved that game!
It’s one of those addictively hard ones. You just can’t help but think, “I can get this one this time.”
Love it. Paper Boy was one of those arcade games that took tons of my quarters as well. I used to love playing it, but yeah, it was a tough one to beat. There were 3 arcade games at the local quick stop in the little town I lived in in the early 80’s. We had Satan’s Lair, Paper Boy, and Tron. Then there was a table top video game system that had Pac-Man and Cintepede. We would play paper boy all the time until it was replaced with Galaga. I think they were tired of people rocking the box when they lost out on Paper Boy. 🙂 I never played it on the NES, I guess after playing them in their native environment most of the NES repeats of the Arcade titles never were that compelling to me.
this is the best.
Thanks, friend! This one required some… “research”.
Battletoads!
Oh man. That game…
Battletoads kicked my butt six ways to Sunday. I don’t think I ever made it past level 2.
I had Paperboy for Gameboy. That game turned me into the man I am today.
Brilliant. Paperboy as classical Greek allegory.
Ever play Lifeforce? It’s the sequel to Gradius, and it hates us all and wants us to die. It is fantastically difficult.
