So, this the other weekend was a whirlwind. It was MegaCon weekend in Orlando. I didn’t have a booth, but I wandered the floor for Saturday. I had a sign that I had fashioned after my wife’s awesome idea. Unfortunately, waiting until the last possible minute means that regular masking tape was used because I apparently don’t have any duct tape. The sign was nice while it lasted, but fell apart halfway through the day.
Before Saturday though, I was able to meet up with some artist friends that I highly respect and admire in person for the first time. We went out to dinner at a dinosaur-themed restaurant. It seemed appropriate.
It was awesome. Here’s a list of the dudes I hung out with, why I like them, and why you should too:
Michael Regina: If you haven’t checked out his work on Adamsville, you should. If you’re a creator, he’s got lots of awesome blog posts about his process and ideas. It’s all awesome. If you’re not a creator, you should just check it out because his art is awesome and it’s one of the books that I’m most excited about coming out! He’s also run many awesome webcomics that may rank among my favorite stories. (My favorite of his webcomics: From Death Til Now, but be warned, it doesn’t end and the mystery will haunt you because it’s that good.)
Stephen McCranie: This guy has been knocking out books for Mal and Chad which are awesome, but he’s also been posting some really well done creativity comics which have really meant quite a bit to me as I’ve been on this last, long hiatus. It’s called Doodle Alley, and you should take a peek because it’s wonderful. (Here’s one of my favorites: Be Friends with Failure)
Josh Ulrich: I came across Josh’s illustration skills through his work on Jackie Rose. He has since stopped posting it online in favor of working for a book, but he’s got a bunch of artwork up and it’s awesome. He’s also been running a webcomic about a warrior gnome named Newman, which you should check out too! (Here’s a link to the first chapter preview of Jackie Rose!)
Jonny Jimison: Jonny is an excellent cartoonist and freelance illustrator. He has a webcomic of whatever he wants to make it, and many times it’s very funny. (Here’s one of my favorites: If I Were a Robot)
So much fun to be able to finally meet these guys.
MegaCon was fun too. Packed, but fun. The sign that I made only lasted about half the day. It was cool to get to meet a few people while I was there. Hopefully it will just get better and better!
