If you didn’t know, there is currently a reality show out online right now, from Penny Arcade, all about webcomics. It is called, Strip Search, and it is awesome. (New episodes every Tuesday and Friday!)
And as if the title of this post weren’t provocative enough this show isn’t really for a family audience. It’s full of swearing and more. What my title means more is that I watch this show with my wife.
I wanted her to watch it with me because I thought it might be good for us as a couple. You see, sometimes webcomics seems like a lonely place. Even when you’re married. You’re holed away in your office drawing in the middle of the night. Your spouse is (hopefully) supportive, but maybe they still don’t quite understand the online world you live in.
Enter Strip Search.
The show is a rare opportunity for people unfamiliar with the life and business of webcomics to see what it is all about. And it’s built in a format that is already comprehensible to most people, and that makes it easier to follow and understand.
It has been great to share this with my wife. She’s getting to hear other cartoonists talk about things I have mentioned and is generating conversation about my dream and business plans. It’s basically helping us both get on the same page and communicate more about this thing I do in the wee hours of the night.
And it’s all free!
So if you haven’t caught the show, check it out! Whether you’re a creator, you know webcomic artists, or just love webcomics; you will enjoy this show, if not get something out of it.
Also, I think I’ll be posting more about having a family and being a cartoonist too because it has been challenging and rewarding in my experience and hopefully my experience will help someone out there!
And for the record, we’re on Team Tavis. He’s got a really funny semi-autobiographical comic about family and cartooning called Stranger Danger (and some more too).
If you’re watching the show, who are you rooting for? Let’s try to keep the spoilers down as much as possible.

Team Katie all the way! She’s a contender, her ideas are bizarre and slightly sardonic, and she’s got a well-developed, “gribly” style.
Also she’s cute. I may or may not have a crush.
