The New Website

new-site

Now that it’s been up for a while, it’s high time I explained the new site. Especially now that all of the comic archives are back up and running!

Hopefully, the site is fairly intuitive, but along with giving a little tour of the functionality, I’d also like to five you a foretaste of what my plans are for it moving forward.

Functionality

    1. Homepage – The homepage will always show the most recent 6 posts. They will be labeled as to what they are, and will have some graphics as well to whet your appetite. There’s the menu at the top that shows all the different sections.
    2. Footer – In the footer, you’ll find some contract info, search, and hand-crafted advertisements that I will get into later in this article.
    3. Navigation – As for navigating between posts and comics, when you are on a blog post, you will see a navigation panel at the bottom of your screen. The << means go all the way back to the first post of whatever section you’re in. The < means to go back just one post on these section you’re in. The  >> arrows will take you to the most recent post in the section you’re in, and the > will take you to the next post of the section you’re in. This will work in every section and will make navigating comics a breeze (even when you’re on your phone or tablet!).

Future Plans

    1. The Ultimate Underfold – The reboot of The Underfold that everyone has been waiting for. The Ultimate Underfold will be an online graphic novel. Pages will be released biweekly (schedule pending) in full color. The story will start from the beginning, reintroducing all of the characters in different ways and everything. The name comes from the alternate universe theory that major comics publishers have. Think the New 52 from DC, or the Amazing Spider Man vs. Spider Man 2099. This will be a story of outside of what already has happened in the Silver Age Underfold.
    2. Downloads – I will be collecting the pages of The Ultimate Underfold into chapters of around 25-30 pages and releasing them as downloadable content (PDF, CBR, CBZ). They will be available as a pay-what-you-want download, which will include a free option! Woo!
    3. Featured – I’m excited about this section! Basically, every website in the world has a “links” page or section of their site. What I want to do is prove why I love a website/comic/book/project. My goal is to highlight some great content each month  and post a few times a different part of why I like it. For instance, if it is a webcomic that I love, I might post a short storyline from that comic with links up the wazoo to get you to check them out and at the same time giving you a taste of what the comic is about. There’s a ton of great webcomics/books/Kickstarter projects out there and I can’t wait to highlight some for you!
    4. Reviews – Similar to the Featured section, but these will be book reviews of graphic novels that I’ve read with links for you to purchase and read them as well through Amazon. Full disclosure, this is how I’m going to “advertise”. Every time I update the Reviews section, I will create a new advertisement for whichever book it is and put it in the footer. It will have an Amazon affiliate link and if you shop through it, you will be helping to keep The Underfold alive. So, this is my way of hand-picking great graphic novels to advertise on my site that you might love as well, and no more ugly advertisements from Google or Project Wonderful. It seems like a win/win.
