Armstrong Part 2

Continuing our October feature of Armstrong by the super-talented David Halvorson (Twitter)!

BUT FIRST, some super fun news: Planet Gigantic is no longer mysteriously absent from the internet! It now has a publisher! David contacted me to let me know that this month was the official announcement that Action Lab Entertainment will be publishing the comic! It’s really exciting and I’m happy for David and his co-creator, Eric Grissom (Deadhorse, Twitter)!

As for Armstrong, as you’ll see in the comic below, it’s funny. There’s a certain sense of surreal-ness that adults can only remember, but kids live in day to day. A world where after watching an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a young kid is then living as a Ninja Turtle for at least an hour. This is what David is able to tap into with Armstrong.

The kids all have superhero names, and their “secret identity” is their real name, coins drop from knocked out bad guys, and suddenly the super-cool hero is a little kid again. It’s wonderful.

David Halvorson Interview: Part 2

Q. Where do you get inspiration for your comics?

Everywhere, but mostly in the tears of my enemies. And also the same place that most people do. I absorb life as it happens around me, taking notes of things I find interesting. It looks like I’m texting, but I’m frantically typing the dumb thing that made me laugh moments ago. Those notes always lead to fun ideas. It’s funny how inspiration happens when you force it to happen.

Q. Are you a writer or an artist first? And how does that affect your process?

I’m not sure, but I guess I’d be a writer first? I’ve only released the first arc of Armstrong, but the second arc is written and ready to go. I’m working on drawing Planet Gigantic now with Eric Grissom, who handles all the writing duties. So to answer this question honestly… I don’t know.

Tune in next week for more of Armstrong and David Halvorson!
