Wednesdays are for sharing webcomics! Now for Part 4 of our October feature of Armstrong by the super-talented David Halvorson (Twitter)!
The fun part about this last week is that I finished a graphic novel illustrated by David Halvorson called Deadhorse. There will be a full review on Monday, but one thing that it confirmed was that I love David’s style. I have now officially read 5 comics with art from him, and that is 4 more than I truly needed to know that his style is one of my favorites.
So, for my final week of sharing about Armstrong, I’m actually going to spend it suggesting that you also read things that David wasn’t the writer on. For two of his other books, he’s worked with another writer, Eric Grissom. Together they have created weird, strange, wonderful comics. Naturally, they are all beautiful to read, and quite entertaining. Mind you, neither of them have the same style of humor as Armstrong. In fact, Deadhorse isn’t for the kiddos. But Planet Gigantic is, and soon you’ll all be able to read it again!
All in all, David Halvorson is a terrific artist and I highly recommend his work no matter who’s writing it.
David Halvorson Interview: Part 4
Q. Who is your hero, and why?
Steve Jobs, because he said, “Real artists ship.” It doesn’t matter if you love or hate Apple, Steve Jobs got stuff done because he shipped the product. I got to a point where I realized I could be the guy who makes comics, or the guy who wants to make comics. Then I went and made some comics.
Q. As an artist, where do you draw value from your work?
The fact that my kids can look at it someday after I die in that boating accident.
And there you have it! Next week we’ll have a special post!
