How You Can Help!

If you didn’t know, I’m submitting pages of my graphic novel (Resonance Men) to a Science Fiction Comics contest where I can win $30,000! I’m posting 3 pages per week and gaining some traction…

But I can’t do it alone.

Most of the contest is a popularity thing. The more people I can bring in, the better chance I have of pushing through to the next round, then the next, then winning!

You can help by going to https://theunderfold.com/webtoon

  1. Rating my comic
  2. Favorite the comic
  3. Sharing the comic with others (as much as you want!)
  4. Liking pages of the comic individually

Every bit counts and it is FREE to help! This contest is a huge opportunity for me and my family. If you could spare a little time, please help and share this with others!

Thanks! 😀

EDIT: Here’s for you mobile users!

Little Robot by Ben Hatke

This book is a complete gem. From the very first page you can tell there’s something special about to happen when a mysterious box pops out of a truck.

Ben Hatke is great about infusing his main characters with a hopeful optimism even when life is not going in their favor. Little Robot is no different. This little girl melted my heart, and frankly, I hope to raise my daughters with the same intuition.

When she finds a mystery robot, she is never scared. She immediately thinks it will make an excellent friend. Even when things get touchy with the robot, she really only wants to help by building it more robot friends. It’s a very special book.

There’s not a ton of dialogue, but you never miss a beat of the story. Hatke is such a wonderful storyteller. I even read this whole book (without much dialogue) to my 3 year old and she loves it.

I cannot wait to buy this book when it comes out (September 1, 2015)!

Wild’s End by Dan Abnett and I.N.J Culbard

If you’ve been around a while, you may know that I.N.J Culbard is one of my favorite illustrators. If it has his name on it, I’m going to read it.  Lately that has been through his comics series, Wild’s End with Dan Abnett.

It’s a story of an alien invasion and a group of survivors just trying to warn the world. The story is fantastic and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Each of the characters–wait. Did I mention that the characters are all animals? As cartoony as it sounds, it actually makes for an interesting way to develop the characters because each one is a hint to their character, and all of them are well developed and interesting.

The whole tale is woven in an H.G. Wells style. It’s all old-timey (my favorite, right? ha!) and the setting is a quiet town in England where stuff like this doesn’t happen. All the aliens are long-legged lanterns or something. They’re not incredibly imposing to look at but they are deadly.

What I loved about this series is that it puts high stakes in a world where nothing seems serious. There’s something discongruous and extra unsettling to see such cartoony characters react in such dire circumstances.

It’s a great series, and it hasn’t been collected into a trade (yet) and while you can find them on Amazon, I want you to do something different! Find a local comic book store near you and try to find them! There’s 6 issues. If they don’t have it, ask if they can.

Comic book stores can be a ton of fun and you never know what you might find!
