Daddy Daughter Viking Date (Iron Tides)

I’m a dad of two nerdy girls (and a baby boy, but he’s not ready for fandom yet). I show them everything from Star Wars and TMNT to Disney princesses to Lumberjanes and everything in between.
A story about Star Wars
So just the other day, my daughters and I were watching the original Star Wars and they get to the trench run. One of the most exciting parts and I’m just watching grinning ear to ear when my 4 year old daughter turns to me and says sadly, “Did they only need boys? Where’s Princess Leia?”
It broke my heart.
I just kept thinking, “New movies are coming, my sweet little girl. New movies are coming that have girls doing amazing and fun things too because YOU can do amazing and fun things.”
About Reboots with Female Leads
I love that they’re rebooting some of my favorites with women in them. I’m excited for my girls to have experiences like I did growing up.
It’s one of the reasons that I actually like that The Force Awakens was basically a remake of the original. It has all the cues that made the original great, while making the cast more diverse so that it appeals to the next generation.
Do I wish there were new, more original things coming out too? Sure, but while they’re rebooting my favorites, let them recreate the old ones so that new generations of kids can have a blast regardless of gender/race/sexuality.
Personally, I don’t care if you don’t like it. Just let those of us that DO like it enjoy it. I don’t have to hate the things you do. I don’t. You don’t have to like the things I do, but you do need to just let people enjoy the stupid things people enjoy. It’s not any different.
