About Windows 8

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 on it. There’s a lot of cool ideas with it… but my biggest problem is a lack of commitment to features. It just seems half-baked (and not in a funny Dave Chapel way). As if they had a cool idea for this live tile environment, but didn’t stick it out for the full experience. So you’re left with this half new, half old operating system that winds up feeling very clunky.

Have you had any experience with Windows 8?

Game of Thrones meets Clerks

clerks-game-of-thrones

“I wasn’t even supposed to be here today.”

After watching Game of Thrones, I was thinking about the journey to where we are now in the story. I thought back to poor Ned Stark getting called to be the Hand of the King in King’s Landing. He just never wanted to be there in the first place. And I could just picture Ned, about to be beheaded, thinking, “I wasn’t even supposed to be here today.”

Which, of course, was the driving motivation for Dante in Clerks. I couldn’t help myself but to make a Clerks/Game of Thrones mashup. It just felt right.

Also, this was one of the first things I’ve made completely digital in a while now. It was a fun experience. I used my Yiynova MS19U and Manga Studio EX 5. I did everything except add the watermark within Manga Studio 5 EX. The painting engine is actually pretty fun. I just did it quickly, but there’s quite a bit of power there.

I need to practice some more, so leave some suggestions of what I should draw in the comments!

Legend of Zelda and the Original Wording

link-navi-navigator-original-wording

As I’ve been going through and updating older, popular comics for mobile devices, I happened to come across one of my favorites, Link the Navigator (ah, the wordplay) and lo and behold… Two versions existed at one time!

I always vacillated between the two versions, but eventually went with a more subtle version. But, it’s been 3 years… I can do what I want. Here’s the director’s cut, with the original script!

Don’t you think that even with Navi and her annoying tone, don’t you just love Legend of Zelda. What a great series. Even the worst Legend of Zelda games are better than some of the best series. Good work, Nintendo. Keep it up.

What’s your favorite Legend of Zelda game?

The Riddle of the Sphinx

sphinx-riddle-abe-pennybagsThis strip originally posted nearly 3 years ago as a guest comic for Up Up Down Down. The main idea was to come up with a “classy” poop joke. And what’s classier than two gentlemen being asked a riddle by a Sphinx?

It was the first of my adventures with Abe and Mr. Pennybags… and in reality, this one comic inadvertently led me to the path I’m on now with my latest project.

How Facebook Pages Work

Facebook Pages can be great for driving traffic to a website, building community and sharing awesome content… when Facebook lets you see it.

how-facebook-pages-work

The social media company has been on a kick lately of hampering a business page’s reach (how many people see posts). For instance, The Underfold has over 400 fans on Facebook. The average reach lately has been roughly 60 people.  That means that only 15% of people that have clicked “like” on our page (essentially saying, please show me updates for this page) are actually seeing it.

But don’t worry, Facebook has a sure-fire way to help you reach the other people that have already agreed to see your updates by allowing you to promote your posts for a fee. And, as a page manager, this is now the only way to make sure that your own fans get to see your content.

It’s a shame, because way back when, The Underfold started on Facebook! But the company is poisoning the roots. There are a few measures that you (as a fan of a page) can take to be able to see the content you want to see!

A solution for fans

facebook-page-fix

Go to whatever page it is that you want to see more of, and click where it says “Liked” and it will give you options to “Add to Interest Lists…” or “Get Notifications”. While it would be awesome if you felt so strongly about our posts that you wanted notifications, that may be overkill. Adding the page to an interest list will help you to organize your feed and potentially make it easier to see the content that you want to see.

So do whatever company you like on Facebook a favor and help them out where you can… because Facebook is getting expensive.

And if you don’t like The Underfold on Facebook, do it now!
