03 Bad Mood

2013-06-11-Bad-Mood

I think it’s fair to point out that even the Bible suggests the whole, “Killing them with kindness” approach, but I think it goes a little far…

“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.” (Proverbs 25:21-22)

So, the next time you’re in a bad mood and someone is only making it worse, just be saccharine sweet to them… and imagine them dying a horrible death by hot coals on their head. Am I reading that right?

02 Coffee

2013-06-06-Coffee-1And now the story of how Brian and his friends stop the apocalypse really begins.

For those of you who know the origins of The Underfold, you know that I once worked at a church making coffee on Sunday mornings which eventually lead to the creation of The Underfold. I figured this was a nice call back to those early beginnings. For those of you unfamiliar with how The Underfold came into being, I recently was interviewed by YourWebcomics.com as part of their Creator Spotlight series and I talked about it there a bit more lucidly than I have in recent months.

Since I’ve started a new posting schedule, here’s a rundown of what’s been going on this week:

Sunday Ultimate Underfold Launch: We Could Be Heroes (Cover)As a note, Sundays will not be a regular update day, this was a special occasion.

Monday Graphic Novel Review: Mal and Chad: The Biggest, Bestest Time Ever by Stephen McCranie

Tuesday Ultimate Underfold: The End is the Beginning (Page 1)

Wednesday Monthly Featured Comic: Sketch Comedy Part 1

(Today) Thursday Ultimate Underfold: Coffee (Page 2)

I hope that it will soon start to make more and more sense as we go because the schedule will continue as planned unless things get too crazy, but I have quite a few posts already written and just need to get a schedule going. The idea behind the Graphic Novel Reviews is to take over advertising. I’m going to post a new book review every week and if you buy a copy through my links, I’ll get a small cut from Amazon affiliate links. In order to be above bias here, I may not post a review for a book that I don’t like, but I won’t lie about them. I promise you that.

As for the Monthly Featured Comics, every Wednesday in a month, I will be posting a comic and parts of an interview from artists and comics that I love in an attempt to convince you to love them too. I hope that through the four posts that you’ll get a full sense of their storytelling, artistic style, and a sense of their personality through each post so you’ll see why I like them so much. I’m really excited for the lineup I’m assembling, and I can’t wait to show you!

Fridays will be reserved for blogs and occasional Bonus Comics, or nothing. It’s a wildcard! Woo!

Wow. Well that got long quick. So… let’s wrap this up.

If you have any questions or anything, let me know in the comments!

01 The End is the Beginning

2013-06-04-The-End-is-the-Beginning

The first page has  finally arrived. The teasers have come to fruition.

The title of this first page I think arrived before the actual idea for the comic. You see, I’m an exorcism movie aficionado. I’m not sure what it is, but I like them. Well, a friend of mine edited a great one called Chronicles of an Exorcism. At one revelatory part in the movie, the team of pastors “figures out” what’s really going on and one of them exclaims, “Don’t you see? The END is the BEGINNING!” as he emphatically draws a circle on someone’s wall. It’s an unintentionally hilarious moment and completely makes the movie for me. It has become a running joke in my life. You’d be surprised how many times “the end is the beginning.” I think the movie is streaming on Netflix, but you know, it’s rated-R, so be wary.

Anyway… First page and we’re introduced to a trio of characters who’ve unwittingly saved the world!  But what did they save it from? Where are they? Tune in for the whole story, Tuesdays and Thursdays right here!

Cover – We Could Be Heroes

2013-06-02-Cover-We-Could-Be-Heroes

I’m excited/nervous. This has been a long time coming, but it’s going to be different from The Underfold of yore. I hope you guys are in for a wild ride.

I wanted to start this reboot in June for nostalgic reasons. I started posting the original (Silver Age) Underfold on the web in June of 2008. With no vision or any other amount of foresight, I had no idea what it would turn into. But I think after 4 years of comics (and several apocalypses) this new reboot is what I’ve wanted to make the whole time—even when I didn’t know it.

To reiterate, this is the cover of a comic book that will be posted page by page (Tuesdays and Thursdays), then be collected at the end of each issues and offered as a pay-what-you-want PDF. After several issues (think 5-ish) they will be collected in a volume and printed (but we’ll deal with that when we get there). This new story is about Brian and his friends as they unwittingly save the world… but from what?

There’s a Facebook event going on all day long, and you’re all invited! Pretty much just an easy way for you to share the fun with your friends and family!

Hope you’re excited. I am. 😀

EDIT: There is now a Google Plus event going on as well and you’re invited to that TOO!
